About the Festival

Each year we celebrate the diverse stories that make up America by inviting writers to submit monologues that showcase the broad spectrum of what it is to live, work and play in America. Our aim is to collect unique, captivating and beautiful stories and share them so that we learn, grow and hear each other. Selected monologues are performed at this special event and published in an anthology. Each year we chose a word that should be included in each monologue, the chosen word for this year’s festival is catalyst.

MEET THE PANELISTS

ART/NY

Founded in 1972, A.R.T./New York assists over 400 member theatres in managing their theatre companies effectively so they may realize their rich artistic visions and serve their diverse audiences well. Over nearly five decades, A.R.T./New York has earned a reputation as a leader in providing progressive services to our members—from shared office and rehearsal spaces to technical assistance programs for emerging theatres—which have made the organization an expert in the needs of the New York City nonprofit theatre community.

Danielle King (she/her) is a New York City based arts leader and creative producer committed to championing artists and building supportive working conditions, opportunities, and resources to create work that builds empathy, cultivates community, and inspires action. She currently serves as Director of Program Services for A.R.T/New York where she helps over 400 member theaters to more effectively realize their artistic visions and better serve their diverse audiences.  Prior to ART/New York, Danielle served as Producer and Director of Organizational Culture at Williamstown Theatre Festival, where worked to reimagine the Festival’s operating model as it emerged from the pandemic. From 2019-2022, Danielle served as Managing Producer at The Tank, where she led the company's rapid programmatic growth after its move to a new two-theater home (winning an Obie in the process). And at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Danielle curated and produced platforms for artists to share their work with the public and transform public space, most notably through the annual River To River Festival.  Danielle holds a B.F.A. from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, an M.A. in Arts Administration from Columbia University and is a graduate of the American Express Leadership Academy. She sits on the Board of The Tank. And maybe most importantly, she is a very proud parent to two amazing lovebugs.

The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund) evolved from our origins in 1882 to the national human services organization that exists today, fostering stability and resiliency, and providing a safety net for performing arts and entertainment professionals over their lifespan.

Elijah Strauss (he, him, his) is the Career Counselor Supervisor for the Eastern Region at the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund). Eli supervises Career Counselors who provide one-on-one career counseling, facilitate workshops, and run groups to support folks in the entertainment and performing arts industry with their career goals. Eli has his Masters of Science in Social Work (MSW) from Columbia University and his B.A. in Psychology from Bard College. Prior to working at The Fund, Eli provided career and educational support to young adults with child welfare involvement through supervisory and direct service roles. Eli is a native New Yorker and in his free time enjoys DJing, traveling, attending cultural events, and exploring neighborhoods in NYC.
